One of the many cool things to see in Marvel’s Black Panther was the appearance of the Dora Milaje. They were first seen in 1998’s Black Panther Vol. 3 #1, and were shown as being Black Panther’s personal bodyguards. With the movie, they’ve gained more popularity so it makes sense for them to now have a stronger presence in the comics.
Marvel has previously announced the Wakanda Forever story featuring Okoye, Ayo, and Aneka teaming up with Spider-Man.
The issue is written by award-winning science-fiction and fantasy author Nnedi Okorafor and is the first of a three-part story. The art is by Alberto Jimenez Alburquerque. The issue is on sale June 27.
Today, Marvel has released details on the second part–Wakanda Forever: X-Men #1.
The Wakanda warriors will meet the X-Men when they face off against the deadly former Dora Milaje member, Nakia. They must protect their king no matter the cost.
Editor Will Moss made the following statement about the series and Nnedi Okorafor.
“This story is a big Marvel-style adventure with the Dora Milaje front and center. Nnedi may be relatively new to writing comics, but she already has the voices of all these characters down cold – from Okoye to Nightcrawler. Don’t miss this one, folks!”
X-Men: Wakanda Forever #1 features art by one of the nicest artists in the industry: Ray-Anthony Height. This issue will be on sale July 25. The adventures of the Dora Milaje continues in August with the third installment by Nnedi Okorafor.
