Thoughts?
It’s a tough one for me. I did enjoy the first movie. For it to work for me, I just told myself it wasn’t tied to the comics. Comic book readers know the Joker’s origin is virtually unknown. There have been some near tellings. The problem with what we have seen and read didn’t come from the most reliable of sources. You can’t expect Joker to know or want to tell the actual truth.
Joaquin Phoenix is a great actor. Lady Gaga is good as well. I’ll admit I wondered whether we really needed this movie and did we need a musical version? The trailer does make it look interesting. The separation of reality and fantasy for Arthur Fleck could play a big role here. That’s what would make it work, in my opinion.
And I loved the lipstick smile on the glass at the end.
