Recently on an episode of my Patreon-exclusive bonus podcast, I discussed the topic of Batman operating with and without the Bruce Wayne fortune after he lost a good chunk of it. It meant Batman wasn’t able to have an endless supply of Batmobiles and other random and often convenient gadgets that could easily solve all this crime fighting problems.
Batman without a fortune means he has to go back to his roots. He has to rely more on his physical and intellectual skills in order to fight and defeat his enemies. That might be cool, but then again, it might not be as fun to read.
At San Diego Comic-Con, I asked this question to comic creators you often see on the weekly Amazing Art Picks posts — Todd Nauck, Dan Parent, Peter Nguyen, Art Baltazar & Franco. They did not have any prep for the question. The camera was rolling and they had to answer, off the top of their minds.
What are your thoughts?
A Batman with a bunch of toys is cool, but does it get distracting if you think or wonder how is he constructing everything? Does he have a Batarang factory or does he buy them wholesale? Let me know what you think.
If you missed the last question, you can see what these creators had to say about whether or not supervillains should have an ongoing comic book series here.
