Marvel’s “Fresh Start” is going to have an amazing impact on Venom. As previously mentioned, Marvel’s new plan isn’t going to reboot or erase previously existing characters or history. Change can be good to shake things up. The new creative team for this series will have you drooling like Venom thinking about eating Spider-Man’s brains.
Donny Cates will be writing the new series. He’s already had an impressive run at Marvel with his work on Thanos and Doctor Strange. Joining Cates with the art is Ryan Stegman, no stranger to Spider-Man-related characters. The new series will put Venom up against an ancient and evil force, unlike anything he’s faced before.
An ancient and primordial evil has been awakened beneath the streets of New York. Despite Eddie Brock’s demeanor, he’s still a “Lethal Protector” for the innocent. The eveil he’ll be facing has ties to the symbiote’s past, as well as the Marvel Universe. In an interview with Comicbook.com, Stegman described this as “a horror story thousands of years in the making.”
You can read how excited the two are in their interview at CB. As far as I’m concerned, the two of them on this title is all the information I need. Cates has expressed his love for the character, and Stegman’s visuals are breath-taking. This will now be a must-read series.
Venom #1 is on sale May 9, 2018.
