Best Stuff In Comics This Week

There’s a crazy amount of comics released each week. Here’s a look at some of the strangest, coolest, and funniest things you might have missed in last week’s comics. These examples should give you more of a reason to pick up these titles at your local comic shop. You can also find more current and past examples on the Best Stuff Instagram page.

There may be some minor spoilers below.

The Green Lantern #1

Best Comic Book Oath

1 The Green Lantern 1

Grant Morrison and Liam Sharp’s The Green Lantern has debuted and it’s as good and freaky as you might have expected. Hal Jordan doesn’t appear right away, but as he charges his power ring, he recites the famous Green Lantern Corps oath.

I’m going to assume you got a little pumped up as you read this page.

Deadpool #6

Best Reason To Carefully Choose A Good Hero/Villain Name

2 Deadpool 6

Someone is trying to kill Deadpool. That’s nothing new, but this time, Deadpool is willing to allow the death to happen. He’s feeling down and allows himself to be a target for this unknown assassin with a grudge. When the killer finally reveals his name as Killpuddle, Wade can’t help but laugh hysterically.

Harley Quinn #53

Best Star Wars Reference

3 Harley Quinn 53

As Harley Quinn gets someone in her sights, she says, “Stay on target.” This is clearly a reference to Davish Krail, aka Gold Five, in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

Iceman #3

Best Name For A Churro Street Cart

4 Iceman 3

Mary Jane Watson and Peter Parker are at the Manhattan Street Cart Named Desire Festival. MJ questions Pete’s decision to go for a dessert item first, and he points out he couldn’t resist the churro stand named Churronimo.

Nightwing #52

Best Use Of Discarded Superhero Outfits

5 Nightwing 52

Dick Grayson recently was shot in the head. Suffering some memory loss, he decided he wants nothing to do with his former life. To further drive the point home, he torched his hidden underground bunker. A police detective picked through some of the remains and has decided Bludhaven needs a Nightwing or four to further combat criminal activities.

This means the return of the disco outfit.

Infinity Wars #5

Best Karate Kid Reference

6 Infinity Wars 5

The Requiem must be stopped. The newly gathered “heroes” are ready to take her on, and Scott Lang mentions the Cobra Kai killer move of “sweeping the leg” in order to take out your opponent.

Green Arrow #46

Best Use Of Shadows

7 Green Arrow 46

Green Arrow is investigating the home of a suspected killer/vigilante. He discovers a secret room and you can see the shadow of someone coming up behind him. Ollie noticed too and manages to turn around just in time to see an attack is coming.

Death Of The Inhumans #5

Best Reason To Learn Sign Language

8 Death of Inhumans 5

Black Bolt calls for a moment of silence for their fallen comrades. Beta Ray Bill isn’t familiar with Inhuman sign language and awkwardly stares and talks during the silence.

Bully Wars #3

Best Example Why Reasoning With A Bully Is Difficult

9 Bully Wars 3

A couple bullies are about to fight each other as the Bully Wars TV show approaches. They tell each other “good luck” because they’ll need it if they think they can win this fight. It starts to get a little confusing for them as they keep trying to force the good luck upon each other.

X-Men: Red #10

Best Example You Can Place A Price On World Peace

10 XMen Red 10a

The X-Men prepare to fight Cassandra Nova. Jean Grey has called in some friends to help save the world. Tony Stark mentions the cost of saving the world and even has spreadsheets to prove it.

Best Headwear When Fighting A Telepath

11 XMen Red 10b

Magneto doesn’t wear a red helmet because he thinks it looks cool. (Maybe a small part of himself thinks this). The helmet is able to block telepathic attacks. Jean managed to get a collection of Magneto helmets, probably with some of that money Tony Stark was talking about, so the allies can fight Nova without falling under her control.

It is a little weird they took the time to paint them all red rather than just try to make them as fast as possible so they can deal with Nova right away.

Batman #58

Best Example Why Alfred Is The Best Butler

12 Batman 58

Not only is Alfred responsible for maintaining all of Wayne Manor, he also does his best to keep the Batcave tidy. Some blood recently splattered on the robot dinosaur when Batman fought Reverse Flash in the ‘cave. He apologizes for not getting around to cleaning it sooner. Batman simply watches and tells him he doesn’t have to apologize.
