The Walking Dead Returns In Color

Whether you’ve read the entire comic series for The Walking Dead or have been thinking about starting up, this October you’ll get the chance to start reading it in color for the first time.

It was 17 years ago Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard unleashed the series that changed the way people looked at the zombie genre. Today at Skybound Xpo, Kirkman announced The Walking Dead Deluxe would bring the series back in a new way.

The deluxe revival will feature variant covers by Tony Moore, David Finch, Julian Totino Tedesco, and Arthur Adams. The covers will commemorate major character introductions along with some of the big twists from the series. The issues will also include new content such as installments of “The Cutting Room Floor” with Kirkman’s original handwritten plots and commentaries on stories and plots which were abandoned for various reasons.

The big question you may have is: Who the heck will be providing the colors?

Each issue will be colored by colorist supreme Dave McCaig.

The Walking Dead Deluxe #1 goes on sale Wednesday, October 7. If you’re thinking you’ll just wait until it’s collected in trades, you’ll be waiting for a bit. It was also announced this “definitive presentation” would NOT be collected into trade paperbacks any time soon. With the first issue available in October, two issues will be released each following month.

Let your comic shop know if you’re interested in getting the deluxe series. It will also be available on digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.

Are you looking forward to (re)reading the series in color or did you prefer black and white?
