Batman Miniseries By John Ridley And Nick Derington Announced

Get ready for a Batman story unlike anything you’ve seen.

Some very interesting news was revealed during DC’s FanDome Legacy of the Bat virtual panel. Award-winning screenwriter Joh Ridley (12 Years a SlaveI) will be writing a four-issue miniseries with Nick Derington (Doom Patrol, Batman Universe) doing the art.

During the panel, Ridley revealed the cover art by Ladrönn.

What makes this different from the various stories we’ve seen over the years is this won’t feature Bruce Wayne as Batman. Ridley said the following:

“I think it’s a pretty safe bet that if I’m writing Batman, it’s probably a little better than a 47% chance he’s going to be a person of color.”

Ridley added the series will focus on the family of Lucius Fox.

“But he [Fox] has a family and this is a family that has secrets, has kept secrets from one another. It’s a little bit different dynamic than the Batman that we’ve always seen.”

This isn’t the first time Ridley has written a comic. His previous work includes The Authority: Human on the Inside, The American Way, and The American Way: Those Above and Those Below.

Ridley and Derington’s Batman miniseries goes on sale January 2021.
