Comic book events aren’t surprising to comic readers. In a move that makes perfect sense, the Star Wars comics will have their own crossover.
If that news wasn’t enticing enough, the fact that the story will feature everyone’s favorite bounty hunter Boba Fett should get readers calling their comic shops to ask them to order copies of each issue for them.
Announced at StarWars.com, War of the Bounty Hunters begins in May, and kicks things off with War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha #1.
The first installment is written by Charles Soule with art by Steve McNiven. The prelude issues will include all the post-Empire Strikes Back comics. In June, a five-issue War of the Bounty Hunters series begins by Charles Soule and Luke Ross.
The focus of the story will be Boba Fett trying to collect the bounty on Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt on Tatooine. Of course that won’t be easy as other bounty hunters descend upon Fett. Fett will also have to deal with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Doctor Aphra.
Marvel Editor-in-Chief made the following statement:
“I remember the chill that ran down my spine when I saw Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back for the first time and the bounty hunters all came on screen. They only appeared for a split second, but left a lasting impact. And it’s a dream come true we can bring them all to life again, and pit them against each other, in STAR WARS: WAR OF THE BOUNTY HUNTERS, our first big galaxy-spanning crossover of the post-ESBera. Bossk, Dengar, 4-LOM, IG-88… all hot on the trail of Boba Fett, looking to score the biggest bounty out there… Han Solo!”
Charles Soule added:
“War of the Bounty Hunters is a story about Boba Fett doing his thing, but it builds into something much bigger, and that’s what the best comic crossovers and big stories do. They tell a great story in and of themselves, but they’re also the start of something, and they open a lot of new doors. And this story will absolutely do that.”
It’s great to hear that Soule sees this as more than just a big crossover. It sounds like it will definitely set up other stories and flesh out other areas in the Star Wars mythos.
