Moon Knight is coming back…again. It’s no secret how much I love and adore the character. For whatever reason, whenever he gets a series, it never lasts. Perhaps this time will be different.
After his appearance in Jason Aaron’s Age of Khonshu story arc in Avengers, Moon Knight has to establish his new status quo. To help him with this new direction, the series will be written by Jed MacKay (Black Cat) and artist Alessandro Cappuccio (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers).

In the new series, Mr. Knight is back as well. He has opened his “Midnight Mission,” which offers protection to others from the “weird and horrible.” It won’t be Mr. Knight who offers the protection though. That job is left for Moon Knight. He’ll be “stalking” the rooftops “bringing violence” to anyone who threatens those they are safeguarding. Marc Spector will also be back on the streets. Khonshu is still in the prison Moon Knight put him in, but Moon Knight will still be performing his duty to protect “those who travel at night.”
MacKay had this to say about getting the gig:
“I’m very excited to be working with Alessando Cappuccio on the continuing adventures of one of Marvel’s biggest messes- Moon Knight! In the wake of his disastrous attempt to take over the world in the Age of Khonshu, Marc Spector (et al) has retreated to what he knows- busting heads on the streets. But despite betraying his god to the Avengers, the Fist of Khonshu’s obligations remain the same- to protect those traveling at night. Apostate priest of the moon god, the mysterious Mr. Knight has opened the doors of his Midnight Mission, where those in fear of the weird and strange may petition for the aid of the Moon Knight! But this doesn’t sit well with everyone, and hidden threats circle Marc’s new start from the shadows…”
Cappucio is also excited for the series:
“When Tom Brevoort contacted me to work on the new Moon Knight series, I couldn’t believe it. Debuting in Marvel Comics with one of my favorite characters is a dream come true! The story is a new beginning for Moon Knight, Jed did an excellent job as usual on the scripts and I’m delighted to be working with a professional of his caliber.”
The new series goes on sale July 7. I’m always excited when a new series is announced. It’s hard to get too optimistic about the longevity of a series, but this could finally be Moon Knight’s time. MacKay has been doing a spectacular job on the Black Cat series. I’m really looking forward to seeing what he comes up.
