Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen released the first issue of Descender back in March 2015. The story has dealt with a universe in the aftermath of a robotic invasion and the fight for survival of the young companion robot Tim-21. Through the course of the story, we’ve seen epic battles and adventures as the secrets of the attack unraveled.
The series is set to end with issue 32, on sale July 25. Thankfully, that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the story.
A new on-going series set in the same universe is coming. Ascender will be released in 2019, and is set ten years after the events in Descender.
Here’s what Lemire had to say:
“Dustin and I love the world of Descender and we’re re-energized by this new direction, which has opened all sorts of new storytelling possibilities for us. Ascender will feel like a continuation of the Descender saga and like a brand new book all in one.”
Nguyen added a little tease as well:
“Plus, it’ll be fantastic to switch from drawing machines and metal all day, to all flesh and fantasy for a while!”
In Ascender, the machines are gone. With their absence, magic has reclaimed the universe. It will be up to one girl to take on the epic quest to find the remains of robotkind and its “fabled boy messiah,” Tim-21.
