There’s a crazy amount of comics released each week. Here’s a look at some of the strangest, coolest, and funniest things to happen in comics. These examples should give you more of a reason to pick up these titles at your local comic shop. You can also find more current and past examples on the Best Stuff Instagram page.
There may be some minor spoilers below.
Best Reason Why Wearing Matching Gowns May Or May Not Be A Great Idea
Laura and Gabby stop by the X-Mansion and run into the Stepford Cuckoos. Gabby admires their outfit and makes a comment about them.
Best Fist Bump This Week
When Gabby realizes the Stepford Cuckoos are clones, just like she is, her instinct is to fist bump them.
Red Hood And The Outlaws #24
Best Reminder Why Heroes/Vigilantes Should Not Carry Guns
Jason Todd has been known to have…anger issues. He’s been following up on some information about his father. Even though the guy was garbage, Jason can’t help but react over discovering part of his dad’s downfall was due to the Penguin. Jason confronts him and acts rashly. The act happened to be caught on camera, and Batman is not going to be too happy about what Jason did.
Amazing Spider-Man #1 (LGY#802)
Best Flashback Moment
Peter Parker often has horrible luck. It seems things are going his way as he shares a spectacular view of the city with Mary Jane. The moment should have looked familiar as it was a dream/flashback to The Spectacular Spider-Man Annual #1 (2007) by Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca. The two scenes are side by side above.
Best Kiss This Week
Later in the issue, Peter and Mary Jane share a passionate kiss. Is this another flashback or something else? You’ll have to pick up the issue to find out.
The Flash #50
Best Answer To A Long Unanswered Question
Readers often debate over who is the fastest Flash. Barry Allen and Wally West are trying to stop Reverse Flash and Barry declares that Wally is the fastest.
Best Return Appearance Of A Missing Character
In attempting to defeat Reverse Flash, certain energies were unleashed and barriers were broken. One result was the return of Bart Allen, aka Impulse. What he recalls and where he’s been remains to be seen.
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #34
Best Reason Not To Ask To See Kraven The Hunter’s Rap Sheet
Squirrel Girl and her friends have been locked up. She insists they’re all innocent, including Kraven the Hunter. When told Kraven has a record, she says it’s just because he’s older that he has a longer record. The officer prints it out to prove he’s not as innocent as she believes.
Best Reminder That Mathematics Always Deals With The Truth
When testifying, Squirrel Girl is asked to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. She points out that it’s not always easy unless you’re doing Math.
Hal Jordan And The Green Lantern Corps #48
Best Reason Why Teaming Up With An Evil Telepath May Or May Not Be A Great Idea
As Hal Jordan and his temporary allies make a plan to defeat the Darkstars, Hector Hammond can’t help but attempt to alter their appearance to lighten things up.
The Punisher #227
Best Reminder That The Punisher Is A Jerk
Black Widow and Winter Soldier have decided to team up with the Punisher to go after Zemo. Punisher not only doesn’t care about Bucky’s sour cream preferences, he also acts as if he doesn’t know the difference between the Winter Soldier and Cable.
Best Reason Why Violent Heroes Should Carry Wet Wipes
After encountering a swarm of rats that were meta-changed by a strange influx of energy, Donna Troy instinctively takes them all out. She has a little something on her face. It’s pretty gross if you think about it, and she should probably wipe it off as soon as possible.
Best Debut Of An Updated Costume
You may recall in last week’s installment, it appeared that Thanos obliterated Riri Williams. It was just her armor that was destroyed. She took the moment to upgrade it and now has a more unique look, separate from Tony Stark’s typical designs.
Best Example Why You May Be Working On An Abnormal Farm
Who else but the co-creator and artist of Chew could depict such a weird and freaky farm. This moment was part of a dream but it turns out the farm actually grows body parts. It’ll make more sense if you buy the issue and read it for yourself.
Ms. Marvel #32
Best Reason Why Hulk Should Wear Stretchy Pants
Kamala and Bruno are examining aspects of her shrink and embiggen powers. Bruno comments on the fact that her outfit shrinks and grows with her. This is something that would benefit the Hulk since he’s often shredding his pants when he transforms.
That’s it for this week. Be sure to pick up these comics at your local comic shop, if you haven’t already if any of these moments strikes your fancy.
Note: They may not be an installment next week due to San Diego Comic-Con.
