Best Stuff In Comics This Week

There’s a crazy amount of comics released each week. Here’s a look at some of the strangest, coolest, and funniest things you might have missed in last week’s comics. These examples should give you more of a reason to pick up these titles at your local comic shop. You can also find more current and past examples on the Best Stuff Instagram page.

There may be some minor spoilers below.

Jessica Jones: Purple Daughter #1

Best Reason To Watch Your Language

Profanity is a strange thing. Some people are offended when people say “bad words.” Jessica Jones is one that tends to use these type of words to sometimes express how she’s feeling. When swearing in public, an elderly woman lightly scolds Jessica. It’s not as bad as fighting a supervillain but can be a little embarrassing being called on your language.

Superman #7

Best Hug This Week

Little Jonathan Kent went on a space trip with his grandfather. He wasn’t gone too long, but when he came back, he had aged several years. Upon seeing him, Superman embraces his son, immediately knowing who he is.

As for how and why he’s aged, you’ll have to read the book.

Black Widow #1

Best Almost Bird Box Moment This Week

Has Natasha watched Bird Box on Netflix? Because the world believes she’s dead, she can’t let her face be seen when dealing with some terrorists with hostages. Natasha simply covers her eyes and takes them out blindfolded. She’s either a big fan of the movie or just a complete badass and doesn’t need to see what she’s doing. Perhaps it’s both.

Detective Comics #996

Best “Come At Me, Bro” Moment

Speaking of badasses, we all know Batman is an incredible hand-to-hand fighter. When faced with a highly trained opponent, he simply gestures for his foe to come at him.

Fantastic Four #6

Best Advantage Of Having Invisibility Powers

Changing into your superhero outfit could be a pain. Unless you have a phone booth around, you have to figure out how to change without being seen. Susan Richards, the Invisible Woman, has no problem with changing her outfit. She can simply turn herself invisible and change her outfit. The Human Torch, on the other hand, has no shame and will change regardless of who’s around.

Dick Tracy: Dead Or Alive #3

Best Explanation Why Dick Tracy Wears A Brightly Colored Outfit

Dick Tracy has been framed for murder and has to sneak around town to find the real killer. When asked why he doesn’t wear a basic black outfit instead of a bright yellow coat, Dick Tracy replies he doesn’t want an innocent getting shot in place of him. He also finds the outfit comforting.

Spider-Man/Deadpool #44

Best Spider-Man PS4 Gameplay Reference

When Spider-Man webs up their opponent against the wall, Deadpool comments how it’s like the Spider-Man video game on the PlayStation 4. He mentions he hasn’t completed the story mode and likes changing Spidey’s outfits. If you’ve played the game, you know what he’s talking about.

Titans #33

Best J.R.R. Tolkien Pun

The Titans are stuck in a fantasy world and Kyle Rayner makes a J.R.R. Tolkien joke. For some reason when Beast Boy attempts to do the same, he doesn’t get the same response.

Ironheart #2

Best Example That Even Heroes Have To Take The Bus Sometimes

When Riri Williams’ armor suffers damage, she is unable to fly back home. She has no choice but to take public transportation. It’s not a bad thing, but probably something she’s not used to since she has a fancy high-tech suit.

Good thing she had bus fair.

The Flash #62

Worst Pun From A Themed Group Of Villains

As if facing the Royal Flush Gang wasn’t bad enough for the Flash, they also attempt to use gambling puns. The pun might be more painful than actually getting hit by them.

Man Without Fear #3

Best Example Why Daredevil Has/Had No Fear

Daredevil is known as the Man Without Fear. In a flashback, he’s seen just how fearless he could be when facing someone holding a gun at his head.

Deadly Class #36

Best Reason Not To Do Drugs

Marcus and his friends survived a deadly assault. Doing some peyote, the results are pretty trippy. Marcus has some extremely bizarre visions. They are pretty telling, but doesn’t quite seem like a super-fun experience.
