Best Stuff In Comics This Week

There’s a crazy amount of comics released each week. Here’s a look at some of the strangest, coolest, and funniest things you might have missed in last week’s comics. These examples should give you more of a reason to pick up these titles at your local comic shop. You can also find more current and past examples on the Best Stuff Instagram page.

There may be some minor spoilers below.

Uncanny X-Men Annual #1

Best Snappy Banter

It’s almost an unspoken rule that if you’re a superhero, you have to be able to come up with witty one-liners as you fight your opponents. Cyclops usually comes across as a stick in the mud but when fighting a rampaging giant robot, he comes up with a nice and corny line.

Best Reason Cyclops Needed To Be Brought Back From The Dead

Cyclops used to be one of the greatest members of the X-Men. Along the way, he started making drastic decisions that felt out of character. He eventually met his demise when the Inhumans’ Terrigen Mists were accidentally unleashed upon the world and it turned out they were deadly for mutants. [Young] Cable eloquently states why Cyclops couldn’t stay dead.

Batman #63

Best Comment On Batman’s Obsession With His Parents’ Murder

No one should have to witness the murder of their parents. This is something that has driven Batman and made him who he is. Selina Kyle is pretty spot on when she comments Batman’s focusing on their death so much is unhealthy.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #2

Strangest Reaction To Being Introduced To Kids

Peter Parker recently tried helping a neighbor down the hall who seemed to be in some sort of trouble. She left a laundry basket in his room which contained two orange-skinned kids. Peter asks the Human Torch for help watching the kids, and Johnny’s immediate reaction is whether or not they’re his kids.

Shazam! #2

Best Book To Read While Waiting For A Doctor’s Appointment

Doctor Sivana has a doctor’s appointment and has to wait in the waiting room. He’s asked if he’d like a magazine while he’s waiting, but he brought his own book–The Encyclopedia of Magical Monsters. There’s bound to be all sort of useful information within.

Grossest Look Inside Someone’s Ear

I always thought of Mr. Mind as a kind of cute villain, but with his newer look plus the fact he’s actually inside Doctor Sivana’s ear, he’s kind of gross to think about.

Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur #39

Worst Nightmare This Week

9-year-old Luna Lafayette is one of the smartest persons in the Marvel Universe. Lately she’s been having restless nights, and it turns out it’s because of a kid named Bad Dream. Falling asleep in class, she’s transported to the Land of Sleep and has a dream she forgot to dress for school. Unfortunately when she wakes up in class, she discovers somehow it wasn’t all just a dream.

Teen Titans #26

Best Truthful Prayer From A Teen

Often when people are dire situations, they make crazy promises to the powers that be for assistance in getting out of the mess. Roundhouse is panicking when Robin snuck the team into the Batcave and “Batman” is on the hunt for them. He promises to cut back on his Fortnite playing, but amends it with a more realistic reduction of time.

Oliver #1

Best Looking Post-Apocalyptic City

Stories taking place in the near future often take place in apocalyptic wastelands. The (really cool) story in Oliver #1 shows some of the destroyed city of London. Artist Darick Robertson does a really cool job depicting the surroundings.

Superior Spider-Man #2

Strangest (and Scariest) Transformation

Otto Octavius is currently in a new hybrid clone body. Still trying to be a hero, he finds himself fighting Terrax the Tamer on the streets of San Francisco. When it appears the Superior Spider-Man has been utterly defeated, Octavius manages to turn the tables on the former herald of Galactus. Octavius has now become the Cosmic-Powered Superior Spider-Man.

Hopefully they won’t have to add that to the title on the cover otherwise there won’t be much room for art.
