Best Stuff In Comics This Week

There’s a crazy amount of comics released each week. Here’s a look at some of the strangest, coolest, and funniest things you might have missed in last week’s comics. These examples should give you more of a reason to pick up these titles at your local comic shop. You can also find more current and past examples on the Best Stuff Instagram page.

There may be some minor spoilers below.

Jessica Jones: Purple Daughter #2

Best Observations About Emma Frost

Jessica Jones is a great private investigator. When she comes across someone, she makes mental observations about them. We get to see the insight of those observations. In the latest chapter of the current story, Jessica calls upon Ms. Frost to help with the case.

Teen Titans #27

Best Reason To Know Proper Hugging Etiquette

Hugging is a great way two people can express their feelings towards each other. What needs to be taken into consideration is the length of the hug and what the other person is comfortable with.

Roundhouse explains to Kid Flash that he used to have a hugging problem that made others uncomfortable. You have to know when to let go.

Unstoppable Wasp #5

Best Example That It’s Okay To Ask For Help

Here is an example when hugging is crucial. Nadia has had a tough life. She recently has pushed herself to her limits and has realized she may be bipolar. Despite being extremely intelligent and powerful, she realizes that she can’t, and shouldn’t, deal with with this realization alone. It’s okay to ask others for help.

Nightwing #57

Best Use Of A Discarded Costume

Dick Grayson is no longer Nightwing. After getting shot in the head and suffering some memory loss, he decided to throw his superhero identity away. His costumes and equipment were discovered by a police detective who then decided to share them with some colleagues. It’s great to see his old costumes being put to use.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #3

Best Description Of Friendship

Spider-Man is known for cracking jokes and not usually taking things seriously. When he’s asked whether or not he trusts his friend, the Human Torch, he jokes at first. When asked again, he makes it clear just how much he trusts Johnny Storm. This is a great reminder of just how great of friends the two are.

Sharkey Bounty Hunter #1

Most Interesting Observation About Balding This Week

Sharkey is an intergalactic bounty hunter. When making a move on his target, he distracts him with a conversation about his head being bald. Sharkey mentions his confusion over those who decide to completely shave their heads once they start losing their hair.

Shuri #5

Best Example That Even Superheroes Use Math And Science

When it comes to superpowers, I always say that “super” intelligence is a great asset. If you’re smart enough, you can think your way out of dangerous situations. Shuri shows just why Math and Science are so important.

Black Widow #2

Best Evidence That An Eye Patch Is A Great Disguise

Back in 1988, Wolverine went to Madripoor and formed a new identity as “Patch.” Despite his unique hair style, wearing a patch over his eye somehow managed to conceal his identity.

In the latest issue of Black Widow, in which Natasha is also currently in Madripoor, it turns out wearing an eye patch still is a great way to hide your identity.

Catwoman #8

Worst Sight To See Inside A Building

Catwoman is in an unfortunate situation. She has to do a little job for Penguin basically because he’s an evil jerk. As she uses her skills to enter a building in order to obtain a certain object, she’s greeted with a pretty horrific sight–a swarm of grabby undead creatures. It’s almost like The Raid combined with Night of the Living Dead.

Hulkverines #1

Best Reaction To A Hulk/Wolverine Hybrid

The Leader is a despicable villain. Working to help a certain agency get an upper hand over Weapon H (and Hulk). When Weapon H turns his fury upon the Leader, his reaction is priceless. “Whoop!”

Guardians of the Galaxy #2

Best Reason Not To Carve Pieces Off Groot

The current (and bizarre) incarnation of the Guardians is having a hard time getting along with each other. When Cosmic Ghost Rider cut pieces off of Groot, they turned into little menacing and stabby creatures. “I am stab,” indeed.

Batman #65

Best Way For Batman And Flash To Quickly Travel

There’s a little tension between Batman and Flash over the death of Wally West. The two are trying to put their differences aside and to solve a mystery involving Gotham Girl. The fastest way to travel is for Flash to give Batman a piggyback ride. It’s efficient but still humorous to see.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #3

Best Example Of The Elderly Trying To Use New Technology

Despite having been thawed from his frozen prison for some time, Captain America is apparently still stuck in his old ways when it comes to certain things. When trying to use a fancy high-tech phone Tony Stark gave him, Miles Morales jumps in so they can use the tech to find the “bad guy.”
