Are you ready for a new Marvel Universe. No, this has nothing to do with the 1986-1988 comic line. This is Marvel’s new initiative that will “reimagining iconic heroes in nightmarish new incarnations.”
Been there, done that?
With Jonathan Hickman writing the debut series of Midnight X-Men #1, even the most jaded comic reader can’t help but have some hope. This is the guy that gave us the recent and amazing (no pun intended) Ultimate Spider-Man. Joining Hickman will be Matteo Della Fonte (Nova: Centurion) doing the art.

The recently revealed full cover for Midnight X-Men #1 looks a little familar. We’ve seen Storm as a vampire going by “Bloodstorm” before. Is this Bloodstorm? It looks like it, although I haven’t seen any official description of that. I have seen many imply that it is her.
This is what Marvel added to their official press release:
AN ALL-NEW, ALL-DISTURBING UNIVERSE BEGINS HERE!
The clock strikes midnight and it’s the dark dawn of a new era.The shadows of New York City are stalked by vampires and the mutant empyres. The sword of Damocles hangs over the peace between these two species and the factions within them. An outright war is brewing and the unturned will be caught in the crossfire. Blockbuster comic book writer Jonathan Hickman returns to the X-Men with a hunger for blood as this new world of terror reimagines the heroes of the Marvel Universe!

Vampire Storm is bad enough, but are we getting Vampire Phoenix as well?
I am a little skeptical. We have a great writer and those pages look pretty sharp. I’m just not a huge fan of vampire stories. We’ve had a lot of vampire stories from Marvel recently. I may be in the minority, but I don’t feel like I need another “Universe” that focuses on vampiric versions of our favorite characters, but I’m willing to give it a shot.
