They will stop a bank robbers in a getaway car if they’re driving recklessly and endangering lives even though they are not police officers. They will rescue people in a fire and possibly even try to put the fire out even though they’re not firefighters.
Where should they draw the line when it comes to saving lives? What if a war broke out in a foreign nation? They have the power to restrain or deal with an evil dictator and save the countless lives of soldiers and citizens that would be lost during a skirmish. Doing so would cause an “international incident.” If they sat back and did nothing, are they supposed to just be okay with all those lives that are lost?
