DC Comics Reveals Brian Michael Bendis’ Titles

The comic book world gasped as long-time Marvel writer, Brian Michael Bendis, announced he was moving over to DC Comics with an exclusive contract. While wrapping up his various titles at Marvel, readers have been kept in suspense as to what title or characters Bendis would take over. The announcement of Action Comics #1000 revealed the writer would work on a ten-page story with art by Jim Lee.

DC has now laid out what Brian Michael Bendis’ publishing plans will be.

Following Action Comics #1000, Bendis will work on Man of Steel, a six-issue weekly miniseries. The series will feature six interconnected covers by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado (pencils for the first four seen above). The story will take a look at Krypton’s final days and Kal-El’s journey to becoming the iconic hero. There will be a new villain introduced who has knowledge of a big secret concerning the destruction of Superman’s home planet. The story will feature art by Ivan Reis, Evan “Doc” Shaner, Ryan Sook, Kevin Maguire, Adam Hughes and Jason Fabok.

The first issue is on sale May 30. A prelude will be inclucled in the DC Nation #0 preview sampler, available on May 2 (with art by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez).

That’s not all Bendis has planned.

In July, there will be two Superman-themed titles, both written by Bendis. Superman #1 is on sale July 11, and will include art by Ivan Reis. On July 25, Action Comics returns with issue #1001. Patrick Gleason provides the art.

DC has stated Bendis will deliver stories that are more character-focused and will introduce new heroes and villains.

Bendis’ previous titles, Jinx, Torso, Powers, AKA Goldfish, and Scarlet will now be found at DC. The library of titles will be available digitally this Spring. Continuing series such as Powers, Scarlet, and The United States of Murder Inc, will also be released through DC.

There’s Even More

There will be a Bendis-curated custom imprint of titles featuring some of his all-time favorite characters in “unique and unusual situations.” New characters will also be created specifically for the new imprint.

  1. This is exciting! I really like Bendis and generally prefer his work on solo books, rather than team books, so Superman is perfect! I’m unfortunately pretty behind on both Superman and Action Comics, but this seems like a good excuse to just jump back in.
