Tony Stark has been involved in a a few different relationships over the years. He’s lived up to the cliché playboy image that is often attributed to Stark’s character. In the upcoming Tony Stark: Iron Man series, Stark will be rekindling an old relationship. Will it last for more than one issue?
In the fourth issue of the new series, Tony Stark and Janet Van Dyne (Wasp) will be pulled together once again. The first time this pairing occurred was back in 1982’s Avengers #224 by Jim Shooter, Alan Zelenetz, and Mark Bright. This first relationship didn’t last long.
After Janet’s divorce with Hank Pym, Iron Man took notice of how “terrific” Janet was along with the fact she seemed to have bounced back after an ugly break up with Hank.
Iron Man pursues her at a wealthy social function, as Tony Stark. A relationship begins, but Janet was unaware Stark was actually her teammate. Captain America scolded Tony and convinced him to tell her the truth. Upon learning his dual identity, Janet was upset and declared she couldn’t form a relationship with one of her ex-husband’s best friends.
Time has passed, and Hank is dead…sort of. He’s been partially absorbed by Ultron, and they’re busy out in space trying to retain possession of an Infinity Stone. What will bring Tony and Janet together this time? We’ll have to wait to find out.
