Listen up Dragon Ball Super fans. Funimation announced they’ve acquired theatrical rights for Dragon Ball Super: Broly, the 20th film in the franchise, in the U.S. and Canada. It’s based on the story, screenplay and character designs of original creator Akira Toriyama.
Funimation also gained the home entertainment, on demand, and broadcast rights to the movie in a deal with producer Toei Animation and Twentieth Century Fox (the movie’s international distributor). Funimation also joined as a sponsor for the Dragon Ball North America Tour 2018.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly follows the events of the anime series Dragon Ball Super. It’s the first new Dragon Ball storyline from Toriyama in more than 18 years. The movie is expected to release in January 2019 after its December 14th opening in Japan. Theatrical dates will be announced later.
