Damian Wayne Gets Ongoing ROBIN Series

If you ask Damian Wayne about getting to star in a solo, ongoing series, he’d probably tell you it’s long overdue. Damian thinks very highly of himself because of his skills and would be the first to tell you how qualified he is to carry his own title. That day will soon be upon us.

DC Comics has announced that Damian will star in an ongoing ROBIN series starting in April.

What is immediately fascinating about this is the fact Damian is back to using the “Robin” name. He recently had a bad fallout with the Teen Titans and Batman over the fact he he kept a secret prison for supervillains. He wanted to give other villains the impression the Teen Titans were killing off those who opposed them and kept their location from the world. He also decided to mind-wipe them with the help of teammate, Djin, because he figured they simply can’t be rehabilitated.

You can image what his teammates thought about all this when they found out. If that wasn’t bad enough, picture Batman’s reaction over the mind-wiping since members of the Justice League did that to him when they used Zatanna do mind-wipe their foes (which lead to all the drama in Identity Crisis).

The new Robin series will be written by Joshua Williamson (who wrote one of my all-time favorite Damian stories with Supergirl in 2010’s Superman/Batman #77) with art by Gleb Melnikov. Before the series launches in April, there will be a two-part “prequel” story in the March issues of Batman and Detective Comics.

Damian will be setting out on his own to explore a new path. His journey will involve new mysteries, new characters, and a lot of fighting. Damian learns of a League of Lazarus tournament and is determined to prove he is the greatest fighter in the DC Universe. He just has to uncover the location of the secret island where the tournament will be held.

Williamson made the following statement to give us an idea what to expect:

“Being a big fan of Damian Wayne, I’m really excited about getting him back on a hero’s journey. Gleb is the perfect artist to tell this story as we show readers Damian’s growth, in a new adventure that navigates his legacy, his connections to Batman, Talia al Ghul and kicks off an important story in the DC Universe.”

Williamson and Melnikov kick off Damian’s story in a two-part prequel story, “Demon or Detective,” in a back up story in Batman #106, on sale March 2, which continues in Detective Comics #1034, on sale March 23.

Robin #1 is on sale April 27, 2021, digitally and in comic shops.
