We can all agree that the Joker is Batman’s greatest enemy. To further prove this point, Joker has been causing all sorts of problems for Batman. Joker recently managed to seize control of the Wayne fortune as well as all the technology and gadgets developed by Wayne Enterprises in order to start a war against Batman. Gotham City has become the battleground in this war.
DC Comics is ready to release a special issue containing separate stories showing how the war has been taken to the streets and the affects on the city. Consequences from this “war” will carry over to Batman titles throughout 2021.

The first story, “Ashes of Eden” is from writer Sam Johns (DC’s Crimes of Passion, November’s Punchline #1) and artist Laura Braga (DC Bombshells, Harley & Ivy Meet Betty & Veronica). We’ll see Poison Ivy’s return to Gotham, following the events of Batman #98.
The second story is from James Tynion IV with artist James Stokoe. They’ll give us a closer look at the new vigilante in Gotham, Clownhunter. Events from “Clown Hunt” will have major ramifications for Batman well after Joker War.
The third story will give us a hint what we can expect from the announcement of John Ridley’s Batman miniseries. “Family Ties” will feature art by Olivier Coipel. We’ll see what happens when Joker’s war hits Batman where it hurts most. The Fox family will decide it’s time for them to start fighting back. Ridley and Batman Group Editor Ben Abernathy will talk more about the story and future implications on the September 12 DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse Batman: Joker War panel.
The issue will also include a Joker and Bane story by Tynion and Guillem March. You’ll also get a Cassandra Cain/Spoiler team up story from Joshua Williamson and David LaFuente.
Batman: The Joker War #1 is a 48-page one shot. It will be available in comic stores and digital retailers on Tuesday, September 29. The price will be $5.99 with a $6.99 card stock variant cover version (by Derrick Chew) as well.
